A vlog on YouTube was released today by Sam Eckholm, a former Air Force Public Affairs Officer and a USAFA '18 grad. He's done many videos of USAF aircraft and the missions they support, but this is one of the best he's produced, and it's the only one he's done on the C-17.
The C-17 Globemaster III - or to many known as the 'Moose', is an awesome aircraft and a staple of airlift intercontinentally and throughout our nation for the Air Force. Even after over 30 years of service, it still has a feel that it will be around for many more years to come.
On a shelf at work sits a memento given to me by my unit at McChord when I PCSd to Hickam AFB in 2011 - a C-17 'Green Tail' mounted on a small plaque thanking me for my service. That was more about service to my unit in particular, but as we supported the Air Mobility mission, it was a gesture of appreciation I was grateful to have received and also a great reminder for me of the years I spent there.
Back to the video on YouTube, the AvGeek nerd in me will tell you that Sam's video is one of the best out there about the capabilities of the C-17, and especially about the 'Green Tails' of the 446th and 62d Airlift Wings. Take a look if you have a few minutes. The videos from inside the flight deck and from the spotters along the low-level route towards the end of the video are awesome. Good job Sam! ~
